Try Website Optimizer yourself...
Landing page optimization requires significant resources and diverse skill sets. The following types of people typically have to be involved if you are going to handle conversion testing and tuning in-house. If any of these roles are missing you may run into significant problems during your testing.
In-house skill sets required for landing page optimization:
- Usability engineer - To determine how page layout, navigation, and appearance effects visitor responses, and to determine what page elements to test.
- Statistician - If you are constructing multivariate tests you must properly balance your data collection and carefully choose which laternative designs to test. You must also be careful about interpreting the results and the degree of confidence that you can place in them.
- I.T. - Your I.T. staff will be needed to upload test pages to your live web servers, and to set up proper tracking and web analytics.
- Product manager - To make sure that all product features and key messaging points are properly described.
- Website designer - To implement any alternative test designs required for the test.
- Graphics designer - To create alternative graphical elements needed for the test.
- Copywriter - To write compelling headlines and sales copy for the test.
- Marketing - Compliance with your company's brand, positioning, and key messages must be observed to ensure consistency.
- Programming - If any functional part of your website or landing pages needs to be changed during the test, you will need programming support.
- Web Analytics - The data collected during the test must be tracked properly, and must not interfere with existing website tracking.
- Q.A. - Quality assurance staff must validate all alternative versions of your landing pages to ensure that they work properly.
